The Misadventure to Mt. Pulag

The Adventure Begins in Mt. Pulag...

I am dreading the day when we are scheduled to travel for our adventure to Mt. Pulag. My friend Con told me about this discounted offer to climb Mt. Pulag at Deal Grocer.com. She was so excited that I also got swayed to do it and here we are...

I am a stranger to any outdoor activity which got me to check out all of the websites, stores, & pictures. You name it, I have looked and searched for it. I am kind of obsessive about these things, especially if there is a chance I might go hungry, cold or tired. I am also a stickler for the travel itinerary and time schedule. I just want to decrease the stress I may feel on the days leading to any of my new journeys. So, here goes my Obsessive-Compulsive side taking over for now.

For any newbie, of course, you need to first search the web for any information about the place you intend to visit. I have found that these website gave me so much information and more.
Mt. Pulag is on the UNESCO tentative List to be declared as a world heritage site, visit

Looking back on the day when I agreed to go on this journey, if I knew how much I was going to spend for it, I might have thought twice. I saw this site, http://thefitpinoy.com/prepare-mt-pulag-climb/, and started from there. Mr.FitPinoy itemized the  list of things I needed to prepare for...and oh what a list for a first timer like me. I had no idea where and how I would start. But everyone had to start somewhere, so I started with whatever I could find in Divisoria.

I found the following in my favorite place Divisoria,

(Tip: Go there with someone so you can haggle for a cheaper price, and go early (7am) so you will be the "Buena Mano customer")
 1. Whistle (which was also a flint fire starter with a compass) Php 100
 2. Heavy duty Flashlight 6 inches Black (with SOS, Red pointer) Php 300
 3. Small Headlight Php 100
 4. Batteries for the headlight (small round and flat battery) Php 30
 5. Metal Hammer 6 in (with screwdriver, plier, Knife, Saw) Php 150
 6. Stretchable head gear Php 20
 7. Hiking shoes (Haha! I know what you may be thinking but I was thinking I was going to use it only once so I just bought a nice sole insert so my feet wont get hurt) Php 1400
 8. Glow stick Php 100
 9. Leggings Php 100
 10. Hiking Backpack (with Rain cover, many pockets, back board, and side straps) Php 1000
 11. Foldable cup Php 50

And of course when you go to Divisoria you are bound to buy much more stuff...

A few weeks after, I keep on buying stuff one by one even if the climb was a few months away.

From True Value, I bought warming gloves which can be reused and a shovel.

The other essentials I bought at ROX in Boni high street like my emergency blanket P149 (I think):)
For my utilities and other kikay stuff I went to the Japanese stores and the local groceries.

Last Tuesday, we had our briefing with our guides Manny, Jay, and Roman from Mountain Hardwear.
They gave us a list of essentials... Thankfully the Sleeping Bag, Tent, & Food are provided. One less thing in my very heavy bag the better.
